Ideas for Home Schooling – 3rd class

Literacy

Spelling

The children can work through their Spell Well each week, creating sentences using new words to extend their learning along with the weekly activities in their books.

Reading

The children should be encouraged to read every day. The children were given a selection of books to read. https://openlibrary.org/ also has a wide variety of books that can be downloaded.

Handwriting

The children can continue on in their handwriting books focusing on cursive writing.

Writing:

Creative writing – The children can continue on in their creative writer books.

Free writing – Allow children to compete a free writing piece everyday if possible, they can write about any topic they wish. Encourage the children to write as much as possible focusing more on their ideas and detail rather than their spelling.

Additional ideas – Write a poem, diary entry, narrative story, write a letter to a family member or friend, recount an event and complete a reading comprehension or closed procedure from https://www.twinkl.ie/ .

Geography/English. The children recently completed projects on Brazil, which they really enjoyed. The children could read and research on a different country and make a project. https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/ is a great website the children can research places on.

Maths

Master your maths: The children can continue to work through their Master your Maths book daily.

Tables: The children have completed all multiplication tables x1 – x10 and division tables ÷1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. http://www.timestables.me.uk/ is a good website to generate worksheets on multiplication and division. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button This is an online game to improve the children’s tables and is a class favourite.

Additional ideas : Time – Informal questions on time, making a daily timetable to keep structure to the children’s days, drawing clocks and guessing the time.
